The member Universities - Flinders, Griffith, James Cook, La Trobe, Murdoch and Newcastle - are drawn from five states and were all founded during the period of higher education expansion in the 1960s/1970s. All six were established as research-based universities with comprehensive disciplinary coverage and a strong commitment to innovation and an inter-disciplinary focus.
